Moose Hunting at Ross Lake Camps

Ross Lake Camps Moose Season 2012

We apologize for the late and short update on our 2012 moose season.  We are planning an update to our website in the very near future which is why our 2012 updates have been delayed.  However we did want to at least get some basic information out there since the annual tag drawing is upon us.

Our season last year was a huge success, and our largest ever here at Ross Lake.  We had 29 hunts booked into our camps over the 3 different weeks of the seasons.  We guided hunts in WMD Zones 4, 1, and 2 last year, and we sent home 29 very happy hunters with moose to take with them!

We ran 16 Fully Guided Bull Hunts split between the September and October seasons, and 7 Fully Guided Cow Hunts in the November season.  The remaining 6 tags were split over the 3 weeks of the seasons, and were mostly folks from Northern Maine that decided to go it alone.  All did very well.   The heaviest Bull taken out of our camps in 2012 dressed out at 914 pounds, and our biggest rack last year measured out at 56 inches with 23 scoreable points.  Six of our bulls busted over the 50 inch mark on the tape measure, and another four of them went between 45" - 48 1/2".   Several other folks were not trophy hunting.  Of our Antlerless only permits, only one calf was taken.  The rest were adult Cows, and we had some big girls that had already produced many offspring, making their contribution to the longevity of the population.  We didn't get the weights from all of our unguided hunters but we know that at least four of the ladies taken from our camps on Guided hunts dressed out between 570 - 665 pounds.

Our top notch team of Guides came with their "A" game as usual from the start of season all the way through the end, and this year helped us to finish off with 151 successful moose hunts over the last 11 seasons....Pretty hard numbers to beat.

If you are a lucky winner of a Moose Permit in Zones 4, 1, 2, or 5 and are looking for a great spot to hunt, you are looking in the right place.  Ross Lake Camps is owned and operated by Don Lavoie and Andrea Foley-Lavoie, a husband and wife team who are headed into our 12th year of ownership of this wilderness beauty.  We have always prided ourselves on providing customers with high quality, customer service oriented hunting trips at affordable prices that are attainable for the majority of the hunting community.  The location of our Lodge and Cabins is deep within the active timberlands of the North Maine Woods, and provides 3.5 million acres surrounding them with the best possible habitat...No Residential or Commercial Development.  This is where the highest population densities of wildlife in the State are.

Quality, Quantity, and Service is what we can provide for you.  It would be our pleasure to have you join us in 2013!
